Change of environment from the Geylang East Public Library - into this beautiful space at the Tampines Regional Library! Well-lit, spacious and airy.
For today's session, I wrote down several ideas to explore based on the previous sessions of research.
The goal was to explore physically the ideas that was written down, so I brought my camera and started filming. By complete chance, I happened to have a measuring tape inside my pencil case, so I thought it would be fun to play around with it as a literal measure of the space, my body etc.
These were the reflections that I wrote down after completing the tasks:
The sound of the measuring tape implies a very clear rhythm/metric.
The crisp sound cuts through the silence in the stillness.
The videos when sped up X4 cuts through the smoothness and jumps. It feels like stop-motion. Scene after scene, shot after shot.
Images/Movements that stands out to me
Measuring Tape - incorporating the usage of that a bit more. Eg: Body? Sound?
Revolving - going over the same motion with various levels. So the change is minimal, but over time it is built up to be seen.
Finger-Lashes - hands covering over eyes, unable to see and chase. But pretending and looking like we are.
Tableau/Stop Images/Fragments. - scene after scene.
Here is a video where I sped the speed up X4. It is interesting to me when I alter the speed as it allows me to notice something different each time. This video is just one of the 4 that I have filmed in today's session.
The challenge that is becoming more apparent is the exploration of words into movement. I am trying to figure out what it is exactly that I am wanting to explore. I find myself falling into the comforts of my own experiences associated with those words, and sometimes not necessarily tied to the poem. At the same time, I wonder if it is necessary at all for me to stick to the poem like a guideline.
Another insight that came into mind is how to disturb an ongoing flow, especially when you are in control of how your body moves. Even if the eyes are closed, I am still in control of my own body. Perhaps the next step would be to figure out ways to disrupt the body....
