It's been quite a while since I've last posted something on this site. Life has been a real roller-coaster, with some really amazing opportunities presented to me. But now, I am able to share what has been brewing in the works & coming your way soon! Before I begin sharing, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported, believed and following my journey. I am so grateful and blessed to be able to manifest the opportunities (which I am itching to share, and shall now share with you):
1. The Mekar Programme (October 2019 - March 2020)
I will be one of the artists presenting a work-in-progess sharing through 'The Mekar Programme', organised by Bhumi Collective (SG/UK) and artseen (NLB). The Mekar (a malay term for 'bloom') Programme is a pilot performance development programme, which will serve as a space for artists to develop new ideas while also demystifying the process of performance creation for the stage. The public will be given an opportunity to engage with how new ideas for the stage are formed, workshopped and developed through open process-making sessions and a public sharing at the culmination of the programme.
This programme will run from October 2019 to March 2020 at various library spaces around Singapore, so do keep an eye out in your local library spaces for us! The title of my work-in-progress 'Re-Translating Urban Legends' will be tackling the concept of translation. I am very grateful to be given this opportunity to get in touch with the community and de-mystify the idea of performance and what goes on behind the scenes. Speaking of which...
2. ChoreoLabs - Sonata Community Studio (in c0llaboration with Sonata) (November 2019)
I will be leading ChoreoLabs, a 3-part workshop series introducing different choreographic tools used in dance composition. Starting with a contemporary dance warm-up, we will be learning a movement phrase, which we will develop further using 3 fundamental themes:
ChoreoLab #1 - Body
6 Nov (Wed), 7.30pm - 9pm (1.5hr)
ChoreoLab #2 - Space
13 Nov (Wed), 7.30pm - 9pm (1.5hr)
ChoreoLab #3 - Time
27 Nov (Wed), 7.30pm - 9pm (1.5hr)
We will learn and apply choreographic tools within each theme to explore together the process of creating choreography. Join me in this series to gain insight into what goes on behind the scenes in a creation process. Be curious, explore and have fun in all movement possibilities!

(I'm really buzzed for these 2 projects so far!)
3. SCOPE #7 (24th & 25th November)
I will be hosting a discussion + demonstration talk about my own artistic practice 'PALMS' (which you can find on my website under 'Portfolio'). SCOPE is a platform for artists' presentations. Associate members of Dance Nucleus as well as non-members may conduct discussions, workshops, jams, readings, screenings, open studio and work-in-progress showings.
Through that, the information and feedback that I receive will be fed into my process of developing my own solo titled 'I and the Other', in collaboration with an Italian composer Adriano Fontana.
4. LiThe 2019 (21st - 23rd November 2019)
"This is How We Meet/Part - Phase 3" by Marcus Foo will be presented as part of LiThe 2019. This is the final resolution to the 3-year incubation programme that began in 2016. Returning audiences are familiar with the achingly sweet tension between various pairs of dancers in earlier renditions. This year, six dancers populate Marcus's work, opening up new possibilities in exploring their relation to a space; to dance; to the notion of connecting and belonging.

As I was listing and writing all of these opportunities out, it made me realise how grateful I am to be able to have these opportunities to expand my artistic scopes, and dabble into something that I am curious in - choreography and being able to share with the community. It makes my heart full of gratitude and blessing.
That's all folks! In the meantime, stay curious and soft.
Maybelle x
